The River Trails School District 26 Board of Education met on Tuesday, January 13, at River Trails Middle School. A full recording of the meeting is available on the District’s YouTube channel.
Meeting Highlights:
- Prior to the meeting, the River Trails Middle School Jazz Ensemble performed for Board members.
- The Board approved the consent agenda, which included the December 9, 2025 Board of Education meeting minutes, personnel report, Occupational Therapist job description, and approval of payroll, bills, and checks.
- RTEA comments were presented by Mr. Bob Kastner.
- During Board Communication, members discussed recent and upcoming events, including the RTMS band and chorus concert, Winter Carnival, Indian Grove Chorus and Orchestra Concert for grades 3–5, and Strategic Planning focus groups.
- River Trails Middle School Principal Mr. Kyle Henkel and Assistant Principal Mrs. Tara Nunes presented an update on building goals for the 2025–2026 school year.
- Ms. Alicia Duell, Director of Innovation and Technology, reviewed the Chromebook Refresh Program with the Board.
- The Board reviewed and approved the 2026–2027 school calendar.
- Baker Tilly presented the Fiscal Year 2025 audit for Board consideration, and it was approved.
- The timeline for development of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget was reviewed.
- Mrs. Freedlund provided a Policy Committee report, which included a review of the newly released policy packet.
- Mr. Rognstad presented the Benefits Committee report and discussed the committee’s recent meeting.
- The President’s report included upcoming events such as the Euclid Chorus Concert, Brewing with the Board, ED-RED Dinner, Shining Stars Gala in Mount Prospect, Civic Connections meeting, the State of the Village address in Mount Prospect, the next Board meeting at Indian Grove School, and the Superintendent evaluation meeting.
- In the Superintendent’s report, Dr. Megerle provided updates on Cabinet work and additional details regarding the Strategic Plan.
- Dr. Megerle also presented the NSSEO Operations update, summarizing highlights from a recent meeting.
- The Board discussed potential future agenda topics.
- The Board entered closed session to discuss personnel and negotiations. No action was taken following closed session.
