Building Sale Nets $3 Million

River Trails School District 26 closed a sale of its property at 1101 East Gregory Avenue in Des Plaines, formerly known as Nipper School, for $3.031 million on November 29. The buyer is Rimland, an organization that specializes in caring for adults diagnosed with autism.

The proceeds from the sale will go toward funding infrastructure improvements for Euclid Elementary School and Indian Grove Elementary School, as approved by the district’s Board of Education at their October meeting. These projects will include:

  • Safety and security improvements
  • Roof restoration
  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning replacement
  • Electrical system repair
  • Classroom furniture modernization

“We are thrilled to complete this sale that will help deliver necessary improvements to our schools,” assistant superintendent for business services Dr. Lyndl Schuster said. “These funds will allow us to continue offering students the first-rate learning environment they deserve for years to come. At the same time, we are thankful to have found a buyer who also serves the community so admirably.”

The building was originally constructed in 1974 and had most recently been occupied by Joseph Academy, which terminated its lease when its facility needs shifted.
