District Policy Update

Dear River Trails Parents and Guardians,

I want to make you aware that at last night’s meeting our Board of Education approved a change to the district’s policy on sexual education. The purpose of this change was to remove a reference to the National Sex Education Standards from our official policy. The Board felt it was important to align the wording of that policy with the curriculum we are using in our classrooms and have been using for several years.

The updated policy makes it clear that students will continue to receive an age-appropriate education that we feel meets their needs while remaining compliant with the law. Also, parents and guardians will always be asked for permission prior to sexual education lessons and given the right to opt their child out of instruction.

An updated version of the policy manual will be posted on rtsd26.org within the next few days. Please contact me with any questions you have on the issue and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jodi Megerle
Superintendent of Schools
