Drop-off/Pick-Up Update

Drop-off/Pick-Up Update

Our front parking lot will be open again for student drop-off starting Monday, August 22nd. We will no longer have staff at the church directing traffic, etc., but in the past, many parents have chosen to use this drop-off/pick-up spot to avoid the traffic and congestion in front of RTMS. That is still okay, but please be cautious of other cars driving through the lot.

Please note that the "rain gardens" (water detention basins) between the parking lot and sidewalks in front of our building are still being constructed, and the sidewalk in front of our parking lot will not be accessible to walkers/bikers next week.

  • If your child is walking from the south, they will need to access the building at door 5, just past the baseball field. We will have a staff member there to help them safely cross the driveway to our back parking lot. They can then enter the building and wait in the cafeteria for school to begin.
  • If your child is biking from the south, they will need to walk their bike over the field and around the building to be able to lock it up at the bike racks in front of the building. There are sidewalks once they walk through the field toward the greenhouse. PLEASE tell your child not to cut through the parking lots; their safety is our number one concern, and there will be vehicles driving there.
  • If your child is walking/biking from the north, they will use the sidewalk to come to the front of our building to lock up their bikes and wait until the 7:33 (8:23 on Thursdays) bell rings to enter the building.

Now... going back to our regular arrival/dismissal in our school parking lot, please read the important information below:

Arrival
Supervision begins at 7:15 a.m. on normal days and 8:05 a.m. on Thursdays.

  • Students walking/biking from the north, or any that are dropped off at school will wait in front of the main entrance. 6th graders will wait to the left of the doors, 7th & 8th graders to the right. Supervisors will help point them in the right direction.
  • For students who ride the bus to school, half will continue to be dropped off in the front of the building to wait outside, and the others will be dropped off in the back of the building and will wait in the cafeteria for our 7:33 entrance bell to ring (8:23 on Thursdays).

The school day begins at 7:40 a.m. (8:30 a.m. on Thursdays). Any student arriving after that time will enter the building through the main office and will be marked tardy.

Dismissal

  • Bus Riders - Students will go to either the front or a back entrance depending on whertheirre bus dropped them off in the morning. Busses 1-5 load in the back, and busses 6-10 load in the front.
  • Walkers - Students will exit through the main entrance of our building. They will walk using the sidewalks, and if they need to cross the parking lot, they will do so at the crosswalk with supervision.
  • Car Pickup - If you are driving your child to and from school, please be patient, especially as we first start this new arrival/dismissal experience.

Parents should NOT use the bus lane, or block the bus lane. In order to prevent a backup on Wolf Road, the left-hand lane in the front parking lot must keep moving (exiting the parking lot, turning left, and returning to the entrance if necessary). Please do not tell your students to get in or out of your vehicle on Wolf Road. With the speeds some people are driving that is a safety nightmare. We will have staff outside to help direct you.

Please remember that cell phones are not permitted while driving.

Again, some parents plan ahead with their children to meet them in the church parking lot next door (Northwest Assembly of God), or on the neighboring streets in order to avoid the parking lot traffic. We have received some complaints from our neighbors on Linden and Ironwood, so please try to avoid those streets if possible.

Please do hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We are excited for our first full week back!

Mary Krall-Meske
