April BOE Recap

The River Trails School District 26 Board of Education held a meeting on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at River Trails Middle School. It was also livestreamed on our website. A full recording of the meeting is available for viewing on our YouTube page.

Here are the highlights:

  • Board President Bill Grimpe thanked everyone who attended Coach George Keehn's memorial service. "It was very touching to see the love and support for Mr. Keehn's family," Grimpe said.

  • River Trails Education Association President Bob Kastner addressed the board on behalf of the union and thanked the administration and board for their "continuing wonderful working  relationship." He added, "Take to heart and be proud of the relationship you have with your union here. I know I do."

  • Board Member Frank Fiarito congratulated the RTMS track and field team for their performance at their last two meets. Fiarito called the team "fantastic" and gave credit to their five coaches, Melissa Cascella, Kyle Farley, Scott Kaminsky, Jim Kuperman and Cristy Tracz.

  • Board Vice President Janine Freedlund previewed the RTMS Steel Drum Band's April 28 performance at the Mount Prospect Public Library. Anyone interested in attending the performance can register on the library's website.

  • Kristy Seifert, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, updated the board on the Consolidated District Planning (CDP) process. This allows for more collaboration between district departments that are involved in applications for federal grants. The board will vote to approve the CDP at a future meeting.

  • Mrs. Seifert, along with Euclid Principal Karen Daly, delivered a presentation to the board about the district's school safety plan and the extensive work being done to ensure the safety of students and staff.

  • The board voted in favor of adopting the resolution that approves the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) amended budget. NSSEO is a special education cooperative that RTSD26 participates in, along with several other districts.

  • Dr. Jodi Megerle, superintendent of schools, recapped a productive community chat session held by board members on April 12. There is an additional chat session scheduled for Wednesday, May 10 at Euclid from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
