Curriculum Updates

Math Pilot:

This year we will be participating in an elementary math pilot in grades K-5. A pilot means we will be trying out some new curricular materials to support our standards based instruction. Two classrooms per grade level (one per school) will be part of this process. Pilot teachers have received extensive professional development over the summer and are very excited to use these new tools to motivate mathematical scholars. More information will be shared at parent open house by pilot teachers.

Importance of Reading:

Did you know that reading is proven to reduce anxiety, improve concentration & memory, expand vocabulary & ability to write, enhance background knowledge, and increase creativity? We ask ALL students to spend at least 20 minutes a day engaged in reading at home. We appreciate your support in sharing the love of reading with your child.

Open House:

We cordially invite ALL parents and guardians to attend your child's fall open house. Open house is a great opportunity to get a sneak peek of the school year. Teachers will share information on curriculum focus areas, classroom routines, communication channels, and many other important topics. We value the parent, teacher, student partnership, and open house gives us a great opportunity to meet and begin our partnership.

Assessments:

Assessments are tools to help teachers measure student mastery of skills. There are various forms of assessment, the most common being classroom formative assessments. These happen every day and provide teachers with information to help drive instruction. At times, we give more formal assessments as a district. These assessments are given to all students at all grades and can help us monitor our progress as a district in comparison to local or national norms. Information on these District and State assessments can be found on our website

During the months of August and September we will be giving our fall benchmark assessments in grades K-8. Grades K & 1 will take the Aimsweb assessment. Grades 2-8 will take the NWEA Map Growth assessment. Individual schools will share out testing dates as they become available.
