Social Studies Mrs. Skelton Room 2
Welcome to your child’s eighth grade year. This is a very exciting time for the students. Families and teachers need to work together to help the children in their last year at River Trails Middle School.
The Eighth Grade Social Studies program of River Trails Middle School covers American History from 1820 to 2000.
The social studies program of District 26 is closely aligned with both the National Social Studies Standards and Illinois Learning Standards for Social Science correlation to Middle School American History. The students at River Trails will leave the District understanding political, economical, and social systems with emphasis on the United States. Students will see the relationships between events, trends, individuals and movements shaping our history.
Most work for class will be done in a dedicated history spiral. There will be an assignment almost every day. Your child should be writing down assignments in his/her assignment notebook Sometimes there will be additional materials to help your child complete the assignment. Homework Hotline will also list the assignment. All students are responsible for any work they have missed due to not being in class on a particular day. No chapter work will be accepted after the test is given.
Grades are weighted: Homework 20% Projects 30% Tests 50%
As we study our history lessons students will be asked to make current day— real world connections. Watching a network news or cable news station allows students to have the necessary information to make the connections.
If at any time I can be of help to you, please don’t hesitate to call me at (847) 298-1750 x261. My school e-mail address is cskelton@rtsd26.org. I look forward to an enjoyable year working with your child.
