                 WHERE GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING

Dear Euclid Parents:

We are becoming increasingly concerned about the safety of our children at Euclid, specifically during pickup/drop off times, so with the guidance of the Village of Mt. Prospect and the Mt. Prospect Police Department, we’ve decided to make some changes to our daily dismissal procedures.  Beginning on Monday, March 30, we are going to begin new dismissal procedures for many students:

Students who take the bus home:  Nothing will change for these students.  They will continue to be dismissed out of door # 3.

Students who walk home – We will no longer dismiss any students out of door #15 (Wheeling Rd. exit) or door #6 (near the kindergarten playground).  From now on, at 3:30, all students who are walking home or who are meeting a parent on foot will be dismissed from door 14 (the 4th / 5th grade door).

Students whose parents are picking students up by car – We recommend that parents who want to drive and pick up their children do one of three things:

1.        Follow the traffic pattern in the front of the school – Vehicles will enter the lot at the western most driveway off of Euclid Road and proceed east through the parking lot.  We will bring your child to your car (valet service) at the east end of Euclid’s parking lot.  DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE UNATTENDED FOR ANY REASON.

2.        Park your car on Cedar and encourage your child to walk down the path on the playground and meet you on Cedar.

3.        Park your car on Cedar and walk up the path to meet your child at Euclid (s/he will be dismissed from door #14 – the 4th / 5th grade hallway)

4.        Other changes to note – The small lot in front of the office, the Wheeling Rd. exit, and the small overflow lot will be blocked off beginning at 3:00 PM each day.  ALL PARENTS WHO ARE PICKING UP THEIR CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL IN A CAR MUST FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FLOWING EAST THROUGH THE PARKING LOT.  Please note that additional staff will be available to assist you in this process.   And again, please, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE UNATTENDED FOR ANY REASON.

One way out of Euclid – The exits out of Euclid School will be a “right turn only” onto Euclid Rd. from the hours of 2:00 – 4:00 PM.  This should make for a safer journey home, as well as help to ease the traffic flow at dismissal time.

No students out of door #6 (kindergarten door)Students will no longer be dismissed out of door #6 at 3:30 dismissal.  Instead, walkers will be dismissed out of door #14 (4th / 5th grade wing).

We realize that these new procedures involve a great deal of change.  We will have extra assistance available at dismissal time to be sure that students and families are united.

If you have any questions regarding these new procedures, please do not hesitate to contact our office.  Thank you for your support while we make these changes.  There is nothing more important to us than the safety and well-being of the children at Euclid School.

Sincerely,
