Payment Procedure

River Trails School District 26 takes part in the National School Lunch Program.  Meals are served every school day.  For the 2009-2010 school year, a student breakfast costs $1.25. Elementary student lunches cost $2.35. At River Trails Middle School there are two prices of $2.35 and $2.75.  Your child may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Milk is included with both meals, with a choice of white 1%, skim, and chocolate 1%. Milk may also be purchased separately for $.50.

August 25th, the first day of school, is a half-day. Payments for lunches will be accepted as of August 26th.  Payments may be mailed or brought to the school your child attends.  Payments for the remainder of the school year may be made Monday thru Friday prior to 10:30 a.m.

A computerized school lunch accounting system is used in all District 26 Schools.

  • All cash balances from the past school year will be added or transferred to your child’s account prior to the opening of school.

  •  Please send check/cash to school in an envelope marked “School Lunch”.

  • Be sure to include your child’s first and last name on the check and envelope.

  • Payments for full price meals are to be made in the amounts of $10.00, $20.00, $30.00, $50.00, or $100.00.

  • Payments for reduced price meals are to be made in the minimum amount of $2.00.

  • If paying for more than one child at the same time, please designate amount per child.

  • Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch wishing to purchase a second meal or ala carte items need to have money deposited into their accounts to cover these additional expenses.

Cafeteria Procedures

  • Plastic debit cards with the students’ names are kept in the cafeteria in a card rack.

  • When entering the cafeteria for lunch, a student purchasing lunch will pick up their card prior to getting in line.  When the card is processed through a card scanner, the price of the lunch will be deducted from the student’s balance and the remaining balance is shown on the computer monitor.

  • The same card will be used by students returning in the fall.  The cards are color coded by grade level.  Any remaining balance in June will be left in the account for use the following August.

  • At the elementary schools, when a balance falls under $3.50, a reminder will be sent home for additional payment.

  • At the middle school, each student will be assigned a four digit Personal Identification Number (PIN).  There will be a keypad at each cashier station.  Students will “Punch” in their four digit PIN, causing their name to appear on the cash terminal.  The cashiers will then proceed to debit the student’s account for each item purchased.

  • Please encourage your student to memorize this number.  Please remind your student, that in order to provide a SECURE system, they should not share their PIN with other students.  Staff will be in the cafeteria to assist new incoming students with their PIN.

  • At the middle school there is a verbal reminder of the remaining balance each time the PIN is used.  Students may see their balance at the time of purchase.  A written balance is available upon request.

  • At River Trails Middle School only, the PIN or cash may be used to purchase lunch or ala carte items.  If your child is on free or reduced lunch they may also purchase ala carte items, in addition to their free or reduced meal, with cash or their PIN if additional money is deposited.

  • Parents or Guardians can specify that their child’s PIN only be used to purchase hot lunches. If you desire to place this limitation on your child’s PIN, please indicate this when you send in payments or contact the Food Service Office at (847) 298-1750 Ext. 7624 from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. At Indian Grove and Euclid, debit cards can only be used to purchase hot lunches and cash is only accepted to purchase milk.
